SWAUL POPE

Storytelling, humor, funk, soul, folk

ABOUT

Swaul Pope (Paul Swope) is a songwriter and performer based in San Marcos, TX, whose music blends elements of funk, soul, folk, and humor. Over the past decade, he’s played a wide range of shows, from small house gigs to crowded dive bars, always focusing on honest, raw storytelling. His songs explore themes like love, chaos, and the absurdity of life, with a mix of lightheartedness and depth. Swaul’s performances are personal and spontaneous, often mixing music with stories that connect with his audience in unexpected ways.

In 2025, he released a new album on Bandcamp, “LINCOLN VOL. 1.” It’s a compilation of original songs recorded between 2020-2024 in Lincoln Nebraska. He is releasing the songs one by one onto streaming platforms this spring and summer. You can listen for free below.

TESTIMONIALS

  • “The first time I saw you live was at a Meadowlark open mic night and you performed the cabin song. I loved it so much!! A while later you went live on Instagram around midnight and I requested that song and you played it for me. I had just gone through a bad breakup and hearing you perform that for me made my entire week.”

  • “yo shit was off the chains. super vulnerable, authentic, lyrics of value and yet not preechy just silly, honest and a damn good time”

    Jay

  • “I saw yall play at power & progress. I was in awe of how much fun the band was having and it put a smile on my face. Every member is very skilled & my favorite part was how the lyrics transported me to another place full of aliens and elevators. I couldnt help but laugh and feel included in the silliness while also feeling very moved. After the set I felt very inspired to write and play and not take myself so seriously. Thanks for doing what you do!”

    Kristen from Nebraska

  • “listening to your music reminds me why i love creating art”
