BROWNVILLE INDIGENOUS HISTORY MUSEUM
Inspired by both Nebraska and Brownville’s Indigenous History, this Museum functions to highlight the often-forgotten Native History. Combining the traditional tribal elements of Nebraska’s Indigenous beadwork and Brownville’s Quilting Brownville, the Museum’s outdoor mural adds a beautiful opportunity for color within the town. Upon starting this project, I knew I wanted to focus on the area's rich Indigenous History because in so many narratives it was left out. Choosing the abandoned building option gave me the complete freedom that I wanted and the perfect opportunity to expand on Brownville's Native American exhibit.
Primarily, I want this Museum to focus on educating the public on Native Histories and Issues, but also provide a platform for Native artists and authors to showcase their work. The museum will be complete with exhibits that are focused on Tribal Histories and Stories from around the Brownville area. Second, I want this Museum to function as a gallery space for Native artists. Brownville has a well-known artists’ community that, I believe, would fully embrace this institution.
